Following what you are now reading, look for individual headings that correspond to the navigation titles (and icons) appearing along the bottom of this App. These will give you an overview of what to expect, answer common questions specific to each, and help you get the most of what we’re offering through them.

Finally, the last two headings provide a little on my personal background (“About the author”) and, more importantly, the credentials behind our James Bond Watches resources (“Sampling of firsts from James Bond Watches .com”).

The About tab tells you how to get in touch with us — for any reason!

Tapping on this navigation icon at the bottom of the James Bond Watches News App screen brings up light-box view James Bond watch-related photos.

All are specifically formatted at 1024 x 1024 pixel resolution for this application. Swipe up to see more images.

Tap on any thumbnail to bring it up at its maximum width in portrait-mode or maximum height in landscape-mode on an iPhone 4.

The image title and a few lines of descriptive text will appear overlapping the lower part of the full image; our blue James Bond Watches News App navigation bar will appear at the top. Tapping the center of the image will make these disappear. Tapping again will make them reappear.

Swipe left or right on any full image to see other available images set up before or after it.

“Back” returns you to the light-box screen.

For options on adding James Bond watch images as wallpapers to your iPhone, see the Read Me section here titled, “Wallpapers for your iPhone.”

Based on user feedback we received during development of this App, it was determined that people preferred to have a Photos section here that they could refer to for quick consultation (eg, in explaining the look or variations of a watch to others) and/or aesthetic viewing. Providing the number of variations necessary to support differing iPhone user wallpaper application needs, then, was felt to be distracting from that — and something better accommodated through Mac- or PC-based smartphone management.

Videos (tab)

Tapping on this navigation icon at the bottom of the James Bond Watches News App screen brings up a chronological list of all James Bond watch-related videos we’ve produced.

The most recent appears at the top. Each item includes a thumbnail, two lines from its title, and the first words of text describing subject matter. Landscape-mode gives you a shorter list of videos, but a longer snippet of information on each.

Tap next on an individual video to bring up a YouTube launch screen.

Title and thumbnail again appear, along with an approximate running time. The big right-arrow in the center will start the video in your YouTube player, where you’ll see all the familiar functions. Tapping “DONE” in the upper-left corner of that player-screen will return you to the page on that same video within the James Bond Watches News App.

The blue navigation bar at the top of each particular video overview screen is specific to the James Bond Watches News App, with “Back” and Share arrow.

Below that, everything in the white-and-grey section headed YouTube is setup according to their controllers. Depending on your sign-in status, you can share the video from within YouTube, search all of YouTube for other videos, rate this James Bond Watches video, save it, share it et cetera.

Firsts from JamesBondWatches.com

When you’re looking for the ultimate in comprehensive, bulletproof James Bond watch information, we’re your complete resource.

Check out this sampling of our accomplishments:

Created the first definitive list of all James Bond wristwatches and variations that have appeared in Eon Productions films.

Based on original, exclusive research, starting from scratch. Backed by objectively verifiable documentation. Beyond the sanctioned sources and viral mythologies.

First to identify the original, literary James Bond watch: The Rolex 1016 Explorer owned by Ian Fleming.

This has passed extensive editorial scrutiny, with content that has appeared in three international publications which has further subjected it to review by over 100,000 readers since 2009.

First to name the new Omega model worn by actor Daniel Craig as James Bond when he took on the role for Casino Royale.

The year was 2006 and this was a time of great anticipation and secrecy. Every detail was closely guarded so that this new approach to Agent 007 could be viewed on its own merits, as a whole. Additionally, commercial investments in two Limited Series watches released in connection with this film meant no one was talking.

First to document all watches supplied by Seiko UK under its 1977-1985 product placement contract with Eon Productions.

With the encouragement of Seiko Watch Corporation in Tokyo, Japan, given unprecedented access to point-of-contact at Seiko UK that had directly with the film crew. Shockingly, despite all the talk about these watch models and case numbers, no one previously had ever even asked.

Created first international exhibit of “Bond Watches, James Bond Watches,” working with through the National Watch & Clock Museum.

Never before has a single exhibit of all known watch brands associated with the James Bond character been assembled for display together.

Additionally, this exhibit marks both the first time that the original, literary James Bond watch (owned by Ian Fleming) has been displayed in the United States and the first time ever since the author’s death that it has been reunited with the novel in which it was described: The typed manuscript for On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (on loan for the exhibit courtesy the Lilly Library, Indiana University at Bloomington).

And you can expect even more firsts to come from us in the future.

About the author

My name is Dell Deaton, and I’m author-creator of JamesBondWatches.com — the leading, authoritative resource on James Bond watches, from the original literary creation of Ian Fleming, to the major motion pictures of Eon Productions.

First and foremost, I created this iPhone App to make the joy of researching, identifying, and collecting James Bond watches fun. It’s another way to access information from more sources, to do so from more places, and to have details at your fingertips, where you need them, when you need them.

I’ve been interested in James Bond stories since the 1960s. My dad’s father sparked a fascination with wristwatches around that same time.

The earliest recollection I have of the two coming together was when I saw Roger Moore wear an LED digital as Agent 007 on the big screen. I knew Bond could wear his watches to dive, and I’d seen his gadget-watches search for nuclear bomb radiation, saw through ropes and magnetically unzip dresses.

But the glow of that reddish LED module was both state-of-the-art and real.

Later, when I was in middle and then high school throughout the 1970s, I was just as passionately engaged in discussions of the latest Eon Productions Bond release as anyone might be on the Internet today. Back then of course, we clipped, copied, and traded paper references; but it was still vitally important to be in the know — and to back up what you were saying!

Computer networking was in its infancy when I started at the University of Michigan the following decade. But I’m gonna bet that archived records exist of the James Bond watch discussions I was having there, too. Some of them will most assuredly reveal my efforts to keep up with model changes from one film to the next througout the 1980s.

Keeping up with the most recent switches today seems sedate by comparison.

In 2005, my investment in James Bond watches went from hobby to commitment. That was the year I launched my first blog, became first to identify the new watch worn by the new James Bond, and, well, went on to repeatedly raise the bar on a passion that increasing numbers of collectors share with me, be it casual or desperately serious.

Comments, suggestions, and simple “hi, how ya doin’s?” You can even send me an eMail by cutting and pasting app201010@delldeaton.com into your eMail client , if you’d like. (We’re working on something more streamlined for a future release.)

Meantime, thanks for joining me here on the James Bond Watches News App for your Apple iPhone!
